As most of you know, my grandmother "Me-Maw" passed away on Wednesday. Naturally we are going to miss her greatly, but we are also rejoicing that she is now in heaven. She has been in a nursing home for around 3 years and gradually became weaker and unable to do things for herself. She passed peacefully and without pain. The visitation will be this Saturday from 4:00-6:00 at Byrd Funeral Home and the funeral will be Sunday at 2:00.
I am thankful I got to speak to her and tell her I loved her a week or so earlier. I also got to tell her that I was expecting a baby, to which she replied "I knew it!
Most of my childhood friends got to experience going to Me-Maw's house "at the lake". For the majority of my lifetime, Me-maw lived at Lake Seminole in Georgia. She lived off of a dirt road and right on the lake. We spent many hours fishing, swimming in the neighbors pools and running from neighbors dogs. She had many fish fries and Christmas gatherings with everyone from Dothan. I will never forget walking down "Rabbit Road", climbing the same enormous tree in front of her house, and bringing home "Chief" (her yellow lab). She let me choose his middle name. I chose "Precious". So, she named him Precious "Chief" Kennedy.
I will never forget leaving "Baby" out in the rain and crying so hard that she was wet. So, Me-Maw popped Baby in the oven to dry her.
Me-maw spent lots of hours in the kitchen. She was known for her homeade Mahaw jelly, homeade bread, banana puddings, banana bread, chicken pot pies and anything else you can think of that sounds delicious.
We laughed and joked about Me-maw never being able to tie my hair ribbons. I was such a girly girl in school and I had to wear a bow with everything. If Me-maw was keeping us, she would try to tie my bows and it never worked. Dad was equally bad at tying bows.
She was so full of life and had a very loud appreciative laugh. She loved to play cards, fish, and be with family. She also had an excellent memory. She could tell you everything about her childhood in detail.
It has been several years since she felt well enough to be her lively self. I will greatly miss her, but I will always have fond memories down "at the lake".

Being able to remember the 'small things' about a loved one is a sure way to keep them with us. What a blessing to have so many sweet memories of your Me-Maw. I'm so sorry for your loss, and I'm keeping you and your family in my prayers.
Sorry to hear of your loss - she reminds me of my Maw-maw - who lived in Blakely, Georgia and made mahaw jelly too!
I'm so sorry Lindsey!
